Teeth Straightening Options: Braces and Invisalign

You want a gorgeous smile, but you’re not sure if you need braces or Invisalign to make that dream come true. Don’t worry about your pretty smile another minute! Dr. Paul Rocke of Rocke Orthodontics in Highlands Ranch and Centennial, CO, can help you decide if braces or Invisalign is the best choice to beautify and brighten your smile.

Why Braces?

Some candidates for a straighter smile might want to choose braces even though Invisalign is an option because, in addition to fixing aesthetic dental issues like misaligned teeth, or gaps, braces correct functional problems that are more complex. Invisalign has updated its technology to handle overbites, underbites, and crossbites, but there may be instances when braces will correct the problem more fully and quickly.

Braces use more force to fix teeth issues so the results are faster. This may mean you have some soreness due to tooth movement, but it’s often worth it. The result is a straight, beautiful smile.

Why Invisalign?

Invisalign is a good option for people who can’t experience any “downtime” due to wearing braces. They are practically invisible, move your teeth slowly, and therefore don’t cause as much soreness as braces, and can be taken out when you need to eat, drink, give a presentation, or otherwise need to have a break from having something extra in your mouth. For the best results, Invisalign still needs to be worn most of the day, though. They should even be worn as you sleep.

You also don’t have to return to your orthodontist for checkups as often with Invisalign, so this may be a good option for busy people who have a hard time keeping appointments.

Are Braces or Invisalign Better for Me?

Whether you invest in your smile by getting braces or by using Invisalign will depend on your particular teeth issues. If you have mild crowding, Invisalign might be ideal. If you have more complex issues, braces may be better. Only a visit to a qualified dentist or orthodontist can help you truly determine which is a better fit for you.
